Is Your Child Ready for Kindergarten?

A child who is five years old on or before September 30th is eligible to enroll in Golden Pond’s kindergarten that year. Most children who are five by this date will be able to make a successful start in the program.

It may be helpful to assess if your child is ready for Kindergarten further by asking the following questions:

Does your child…

• Share and take turns?
• Retell simple stories?
• Enjoy being with others?
• Tell his or her full name and age?
• Recognize and write his or her name?
• Understand number concepts?
• Identify colors?
• Begin to recognize lowercase letters?
• Relate experiences?
• Sit still for periods of time?
• Draw simple figures?
• Take care of personal property?
• Put away toys?
• Enjoy listening to stories?
• Ask questions to gain information?
• Listen to and follow multi-step directions?
